Gran Fondo Storebælt – September 2nd, 2023

The start of Gran Fondo Storebælt is rapidly approaching. The final details regarding the race organization have been settled, allowing us to provide you with the last update before you head out on one of the two magnificent routes. Below, you’ll find all the practical information:

Medio Fondo: Korsør – Nyborg 85 km
The start will take place at Gamle Banegårdsplads (the harbor in Korsør).

Number Pickup in Korsør Hall, Tovesvej 30 B, 4220 Korsør.
You can pick up your race number:

  • Friday, September 1st, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
  • Saturday, September 2nd, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Along with your race number, you’ll receive a cycling jersey (for those who ordered one) and a white bag to hold your change of clothes. We’ll ensure that the bag is transported to the finish area in Nyborg, where you can collect it. The white bag is intended for one set of change of clothes! The race number includes: number for jersey, number for helmet, and an A5 label for the white bag.

Coffee and Muffins in Korsør: From 10:00 AM until the start, coffee and muffins will be served in Korsør Hall, where restroom facilities will also be available.

Start Times in Korsør from Gamle Banegårdsplads:

Parking in Korsør: There are ample parking options in Korsør, including at Korsør Hall, where shuttle buses will operate from.

Routes:
We’ve updated the route from Korsør to Nyborg due to changes in the depots. See the route here:

Route Marking:
The route itself is clearly marked with black signs and yellow text. Some physical checkpoints will also be present. Remember, this is a recreational event, and traffic regulations MUST be followed. Motorcycle officials will be present along the entire route.

Transition at the Storebæltsbroen Bridge:
The Storebæltsbroen bridge will be accessible for participants from 4:00 PM. If you arrive too early, you’ll be stopped just before the bridge entrance and allowed to cycle onto the bridge once it’s ready. The last participant will be allowed onto the bridge at 6:30 PM, so if you don’t reach the bridge by that time, unfortunately, you’ll be out of the race. By 7:30 PM, the bridge will be closed for participants. A sweep vehicle will follow the last participants, so if you don’t make it to exit 44 Knudshoved, you’ll be picked up and transported to the finish area.

Timing:
To ensure maximum safety, the finish line will be just after you exit the Storebæltsbroen bridge onto Hjejlevej. From there, it’s a 6 km ride to Cirkuspladsen in Nyborg, where the finishing festivities will take place. You can take a leisurely ride to Cirkuspladsen.

Mechanic at All Depots:
There will be a mechanic at all depots for assistance in case of any mishaps. However, the selection will be limited as it’s not possible to carry bike parts for all types of bikes. There will be plenty of tires, tubes, CO2 cartridges, etc. Mechanic assistance is at your own cost.

Depot on the 85 km Route:
After approximately 45 km, there will be a depot at Stillinge Skole. Here, you’ll find water, energy drinks, bananas, energy bars, gels, and cake.

Support Vehicles:
The entire route will traverse small, yet incredibly scenic roads. With around 2500 participants on separate routes, there won’t be much room for additional traffic. Therefore, support vehicles are not allowed on the route.

Finish Area: Cirkuspladsen – Banegårdsalleen, 5800 Nyborg
Upon arriving at Cirkuspladsen in Nyborg, you’ll find bicycle parking available so you can enjoy your well-deserved pasta salad from Hotel Nyborg Strand, along with a cold soda or beer.

Bus Transportation:
Buses will depart from the parking area at exit 44 Knudshoved, Hjejlevej – Storebæltsbroen nødparkering. Our staff will guide you to the parking area. Buses and bike-carrying trucks will travel in pairs, ensuring participants and their bikes stay together. The bikes will be packed securely with blankets in the truck. Buses and trucks will run from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, shuttling between Nyborg and Korsør. Departure times are as follows:

  • 9:30 AM – Start Groups (1, 2 & 3)
  • 10:30 AM – Start Groups (4, 5 & 6)
  • 11:30 AM – Start Groups (7, 8 & 9)
  • 12:30 PM – Start Groups (10, 11 & 12)

After the Race:
For those who have booked bus transportation after the race, buses with accompanying trucks will operate from 6:30 PM to approximately 9:00 PM. Buses will depart from Cirkuspladsen at the finish area. A bus voucher will be sent to those who have booked bus transportation.

We’re looking forward to September 2nd, when we’ll create a cycling celebration together.

Best regards, Allan Johansen, Jørgen Sørensen & Mogens Gamst.
